Liquid-Cooling Connector Tending System Enters Volume Production
The liquid-cooling connector tending system built by New Partner has completed installation, commissioning and pre-acceptance and moved into volume production: gantry tending, automatic silo feeding and in-line inspection working together on liquid-cooling line connectors and quick couplings.
The liquid-cooling connector tending system built for our customer has completed installation, commissioning and pre-acceptance, and has moved into volume production. The system runs stably on site, part quality and production cycle meet the volume-production requirement, and the customer’s operating and maintenance team has completed training and can now take over daily running and changeover.
From the first part drawing to volume production, this project followed the same route we always take: machine compatibility and gripping assessment first, then the concept, then the equipment, then support on the floor during ramp-up.
Liquid-cooling connectors: a family of parts that does not automate easily
The parts entering volume production here are liquid-cooling line connectors and quick couplings, used in the thermal management loops of data centres, energy storage and electric vehicles. Three characteristics make them awkward for automation:
- Thin walls, easily marked — sealing faces and thin sections are sensitive to clamping force, so both gripping and clamping have to be gentle.
- Tight sealing faces — any ding or scratch on an O-ring groove or a sealing end face causes a leak, so contact damage is not acceptable.
- High mix, frequent changeover — many specifications and fluctuating order quantities mean the equipment has to switch models quickly.
Because of these characteristics, the project team measured the machine structure, the chuck, the loading aperture and the part attitude item by item at concept stage. Grippers and part chutes were built around the real part condition, and the route from pick to clamp avoids contact damage throughout.
System composition: tending, feeding and in-line inspection
The system works as three cooperating parts:
- Gantry tending cell — moves parts between machines and clamps them accurately, with a stable rhythm and a small footprint.
- Automatic silo feeding — blanks in and finished parts out are both handled through the store, so a single reload supports a long run and the night shift no longer depends on an operator standing by.
- In-line inspection after machining — critical dimensions are measured on the line, OK and NG parts are sorted automatically, and non-conforming parts do not reach the next operation.
For the customer the change is direct: the operator moves from watching one machine’s loading and unloading to patrolling several machines, the night shift can run reliably, and part quality is backed by in-line inspection.
Volume production is not the end point
After entering volume production the project team stays on site: optimising changeover procedures with production, fine-tuning motions to the measured cycle, and putting spares and maintenance plans in place. Further part numbers and machine models the customer adds later will be assessed as extensions of this proven configuration.
Liquid cooling sits at the centre of thermal management for data centres, energy storage and electric vehicles, and demand for machining liquid-cooling connector parts is growing quickly. We will keep going deeper on this part family and turn what has been proven into reusable configurations for manufacturers with batch production requirements.
