Robot Machine-Tending Cell

Robot, feeding and guarding assembled into one cell that can be deployed as a unit.

In short

Robot Machine-Tending Cell, in short

What is in a robot machine-tending cell?

A six-axis robot (floor-mounted, overhead rail or floor rail), an end effector, a feeding unit (tray, storage magazine or conveyor), machine-side retrofits, and guarding and fencing. The robot body can be an ABB, DENSO or ESTUN unit, selected against part weight, working radius and pose requirements. Payload is not calculated from part weight alone: end-effector weight, the offset center of gravity of the part and the dynamic load from acceleration and deceleration all count.

Scope and typical configuration

What the cell contains

A six-axis robot (floor-mounted / overhead rail / floor rail) + end effector + feeding unit (tray, storage magazine or conveyor) + machine-side retrofits + guarding and fencing.

Robot bodies

Partner bodies from ABB, DENSO and ESTUN can be selected, sized by part weight, working radius and pose requirement.

Mounting options

Floor mounting suits a stand-alone station; an overhead rail (on top of the machining center) or a floor rail suits traveling along the row of machines to serve several of them.

Sizing rule

Robot payload cannot be calculated from part weight alone: end-effector weight, the offset center of gravity of the part and the dynamic load from acceleration and deceleration have to be included.

Frequently asked questions

How much floor space does a robot cell need?

It depends on the robot model, the feeding format and the guarding boundary; there is no standard footprint. A layout drawing with the space requirement is issued at proposal stage.

Can the cell switch between robot loading and manual loading?

A manual mode can be kept, so the machine returns to manual operation during an automation fault or a small trial batch.

Can we specify the robot brand?

Yes. We are a partner of multi-joint robot manufacturers including ABB, DENSO and ESTUN, and the body can be selected to match the brand you already run.

Need a machine-tending concept for your part and machine?

Send the machine brand/model, part drawing or photo, blank and finished-part handling, single or multi-machine layout, target cycle and acceptance requirements.
