CNC Robot Cycle Calculations: Serial Actions, Overlap and an Eight-Second Example

The example gives an 800 g component, approximately 3.8 s machining and 5 s robot activity.

Technical application analysis. Illustrative 50 × 80 mm cylindrical steel component; CNC machine in a teaching example; robot tending with potentially overlapping preparation.

Reference configuration and timing

  • The example gives an 800 g component, approximately 3.8 s machining and 5 s robot activity.
  • It also describes an eight-second calculation using five plus three seconds with inconsistent serial/parallel wording.
  • Twenty hours at exactly 8 s yields 9,000 theoretical parts, before losses.

Engineering evaluation

For strictly sequential actions, add the non-overlapping durations. When the robot prepares a blank while cutting continues, add only the actions that occupy the stopped machine. Use a timeline to establish which rule applies, rather than combining a sum and a parallel maximum for the same sequence.

Include door travel, clamp confirmation, cleaning and safe waiting in the actual measurement. Continuous good-part departures provide a more useful result than an isolated ideal movement.

Selection conditions and evidence limits

This is a corrected teaching example, not a New Partner installation. Neither a roughly 10,000-part day nor an eight-second contract cycle is supported by this arithmetic.

Application questions

What is the ideal output for 20 hours at 8 s?

9,000 parts. Availability, rejects and replenishment reduce real output.

Can all robot activity overlap cutting?

No. Removing the machined part and entering the work zone require the appropriate stopped and safe state.
