GMU-400E Five-Axis Cell: Robot Handling, 18 Positions and RFID

The manufacturer description combines a GMU-400E, six-axis robot, 18 storage positions and RFID.

Technical application analysis. Mixed fixture-mounted workpieces; GMU-400E five-axis machine; six-axis robot, 18-position storage and RFID.

Reference configuration and timing

  • The manufacturer description combines a GMU-400E, six-axis robot, 18 storage positions and RFID.
  • The cited configuration states 210 kg robot payload and 75 s for a loading/unloading operation. C014 duplicates the same cell.

Engineering evaluation

An RFID read identifies an item; it does not prove that the fixture is clean, the workpiece is seated or clamping is secure. Link identification to program version, fixture state and independent clamping confirmation.

For mixed jobs, calculate storage coverage using each job’s machining and setup time. Eighteen positions alone cannot define days of unattended production, especially when tool servicing or chip removal intervenes.

Selection conditions and evidence limits

Manufacturer statements about 24/7 operation and utilization are not supported here by long-term acceptance records. A 210 kg robot rating is not permission for a 210 kg bare workpiece.

Application questions

What should an RFID job record contain?

At minimum, a controlled link between item identity, fixture, program and allowed processing state; physical clamping still requires its own checks.

How is storage coverage estimated?

Use the actual job sequence and its processing times, then account for replenishment, tools, chip handling and exceptions.
