Turning and Hobbing: Two Gantries Across Three Process Machines

There are three machining units in the described line.

Technical application analysis. Gear components within 10 kg; two 400K lathes and one dedicated hobbing machine; two handling units across three process machines.

Reference configuration and timing

  • There are three machining units in the described line.
  • The source states parts within 10 kg and approximately 10–12 s exchange.
  • The 150200 heavy H-series designation describes the automation line, not all three machine tools.

Engineering evaluation

Define the locating datum and allowed grip surfaces before and after hobbing. Chips and surface condition can change at the process boundary. Interlock the shared handoff zone so the two handling units cannot enter it together.

Size the intermediate buffer using the difference between turning and hobbing times. An 11 s midpoint of an exchange range cannot establish complete gear output or absorb every fault condition.

Selection conditions and evidence limits

The source is a product structure description without delivered-customer acceptance, gear geometry or material evidence.

Application questions

Are three machine tools the same as three gantries?

No. Process machines and handling units are separate counts.

What drives buffer capacity?

Process-time imbalance, transfer sequence, recovery policy and the permitted upstream waiting.
